Graduate: How to Apply

New students wishing to enroll in this program must complete/provide the following:

• An online graduate application.
• Three references: Two academic references (educators from the applicant’s undergraduate or graduate career) and one personal reference (a mentor, pastor, etc.). If the applicant is returning to school after a prolonged absence (five years or more), two professional references may be obtained in place of the academic references.
• Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions the applicant has attended.
• A recent government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.) scanned and emailed to .
• A two- to three- page essay describing their personal, spiritual, and professional background and how their professional goals and interests match the goals and purpose of Johnson University and the chosen graduate program. Include any additional information the faculty should know as it considers the application. Email to .
• Counseling Prerequisite: A minimum of 15 hours of undergraduate or graduate credit hours in counseling or a related field from a regionally accredited institution. See the academic catalog for more information.
• Applicants with an undergraduate GPA of less than 3.0 will be required to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT).
• A 5-10 page writing sample from their previous college work.
• Interview with the School of Social & Behavioral Science graduate faculty.

New students wishing to enroll in this program must complete/provide the following:

• Three references: one from a minister or church leader, one from an educator, and one from an employer or colleague.
• Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions the applicant has attended.
• A recent photo.
• A two- to three-page essay describing their reasons for pursuing a degree program at Johnson University Tennessee; their current Christian commitment, including church and ministry involvement; prior teaching and/or work experience, including both ministry and professional activities that shaped their decision and prepared them for graduate studies; personal career goals and how their chosen graduate program will help accomplish those goals. Include any additional information the faculty should know as it considers the application.
• Degree-seeking applicants must hold a current teaching license or current employment as a teacher in a state or Christian school.

The 13-month M.A. in Holistic Education program provides a “fifth year” of advanced study leading to licensure for those who have completed a bachelor’s degree from the Templar School of Education. This degree cannot be taken as a stand-alone program, nor is it designed for students who hold a degree from another department, college, or university.

Students wishing to enroll in this program must complete/provide the following:

• An online graduate application.
• Two references, one from a minister or church leader and one from an academic supervisor or educator.
• A brief admissions essay stating their goals and objectives.
• PRAXIS II test scores.
• Interview, scheduled by the Templar School of Education after the application items have been submitted.

New students wishing to enroll in this program must complete/provide the following:

• Three references, one from a minister or church leader, one from an educator, and one from an employer or colleague.
• Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions the applicant has attended.
• A recent photo.
• A two- to three-page admissions essay describing their reasons for pursuing a degree program at Johnson University Tennessee; their current Christian commitment, including church and ministry involvement; prior teaching and/or work experience, including both ministry and professional activities that shaped their decision and prepared them for graduate studies; personal career goals and how their chosen graduate program will help accomplish those goals. Include any additional information the faculty should know as it considers the application.
• Standard resume.
• Answers to essay questions, which will be emailed to you upon completion of your application.
• PRAXIS I or PRAXIS II test scores.

Minimum Applicant Requirements:

• Master’s degree in education or a related field
• Valid teaching license or comparable credentials

Application Outline:

1. Complete the online application for graduate students.
2. Complete the Educational Technology Candidate Interview.

Standard Johnson University Requirements for Graduate Students:

• Complete the Johnson University “Application for Graduate Degree” online and pay the application fee.
• Submit three references through the “Graduate Reference Form” online
• Complete the “Graduate Essay Submission” online.
• Submit official undergraduate and graduate transcripts.

Selection Procedures:

Applicants will be selected for admittance to the program by a selection committee consisting of the program director, program faculty, and an administrator.

Applicants must meet the requirements of all Johnson University graduate students. Applicants who meet the minimum requirements of successfully completing the Johnson University Application for Graduate Degree and possessing a valid teaching license or equivalent will be considered for the Ed.S. Educational Technology program. After reviewing the completed application, selected applicants will be invited for an interview on ground or online. The selection committee will then make offers of admission to applicants based on the entire application process.
