We are praying and preparing for the upcoming weeks of Senior Saints in the Smokies. We are excited for you to join us for this time of fellowship, Bible study, and fun. Please note there may be last-minute changes to the workshops/programs/activities. Check your program book when you arrive for accurate information.
Depending on the weather, the plan is to hike one of two popular trails (rated moderate) in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Options include:
1. Abrams Falls Trail in Cades Cove with total elevation changes of 1800 feet.
2. Middle Prong Trail located near Tremont, which was once a logging community. This trail follows the Lynn Camp Prong, a gorgeous mountain stream with several cascades and waterfalls.
Each hike is about 5.5 miles in length. The Abrams Falls Trail is a bit more strenuous and a little farther from campus.
We will bike the 11-mile loop around Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains National Park. On Wednesdays, the one-way road is closed to motor vehicles, so it is an ideal time to bike this scenic road. You can bring your own bike or rent one at Cades Cove.
The plan is to play 18 holes on Thursday, depending on weather conditions. We will be golfing at Lambert Acres in nearby Maryville, Tennessee. Green and cart fees are approximately $35. Please note that since many golf courses have closed, those that remain open often experience slower play.
Photo excursions will vary depending on the weather and interest level of participants. We may even have time to discuss photo editing on your computer. These excursions are for beginners to more advanced photographers using smartphone cameras or your own camera equipment.
Some possible excursions are:
1. Sunrise over the French Broad River – on campus
2. Mountain landscapes or Cades Cove grist mill, Oliver cabin, church, or stream
3. Knoxville Botanical Gardens
4. Sunset over the Knoxville cityscape or buildings on-campus
Excursion leader and photographer extraordinaire is Cliff McCartney. Examples of his work that is similar to these excursions will be on display during the information/orientation meeting.
