Application Process: Those who meet the above qualifications should submit the following application materials by March 1, 2025, for the first round of consideration:
- An Essay of not more than 2,000 words: The Honors Program triangulates service, cross-cultural engagement, and undergraduate research to fulfill Johnson University’s mission through excellence. Thus, we would like your essay to focus on how you see your experiences (family background, academic training, extracurricular activities, church involvement, part-time jobs, or anything else you deem relevant) up to this point preparing you for that kind of a program. We would also like to know how you envision building on that experience as a student leader in the Honors Program. Please be as specific as possible in your answer.
- Evidence of Research Potential: Please provide an example of your best graded research project from high school (examples include a research paper from an AP class, a scholarly paper from a senior class, a project from an honors class, etc.).
- Letter of Recommendation: Please provide an academic reference letter from a teacher or someone else who knows your scholarly potential. Ask this person to speak about your academic ability as well as your character as a student, a leader, and as a classmate. NOTE: this letter may also serve as one of your reference letters for application to the Honors Program.
Second Round:
Members of the Honors Council will review all application materials, and those students selected for the second round of consideration will receive and invitation for an interview (either in person or via Zoom). Faculty on the Honors Council will determine scholarship awards after the interview process, with decisions announced by late April.
