Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Sport and Fitness Leadership (Health & Human Performance)

Position Overview:

The School of Arts & Sciences at Johnson University invites applications for a full-time, Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Sport and Fitness Leadership (Health & Human Performance) to join our dedicated faculty. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching excellence, experiential learning, student mentorship, and scholarly research. We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to our Health & Human Performance track within our growing Sport and Fitness Leadership program and are passionate about preparing students for careers related to Exercise Science and the allied health fields.

Responsibilities:

Teaching: Teach undergraduate courses in exercise science, including but not limited to anatomical kinesiology, care and prevention of injuries, exercise physiology, strength training and conditioning, sport and exercise nutrition, and elective courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.

Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development and revision of the Sport and Fitness Leadership curriculum, specifically the newly formed Health & Human Performance track, to ensure it meets industry standards and prepares students for a wide range of career opportunities.

Student Mentorship: Provide academic advising and mentorship to students, helping them navigate their academic and career paths.

Service: Participate in departmental, college, and university service, including committee work and other activities that contribute to the growth and development of the institution.

Research: Engage in scholarly research, with opportunities for collaboration with students. While JU places a strong emphasis on teaching, we value research that enhances the academic environment and supports student learning.

Qualifications:

Education: Graduate degree (terminal degree preferred) in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a closely related field is required by the start date of the appointment.

Experience: Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. A strong record of experience in the field or scholarly research or the potential for scholarly research.

– Commitment to student mentorship and engagement.

Preferred Qualifications:

– CSCS certification or other relevant certifications related to allied health fields.

– Experience in curriculum development and academic program enhancement.

– Online teaching experience and course development.

– Interest in or experience with interdisciplinary collaboration.

– Familiarity with current trends and best practices in exercise science.

Proposed Starting Date:

Fall 2025 (July 1, 2025)

  1. Describe your personal faith and Christian experience, including what you consider to be the most significant implications of your faith commitments to your vocation as a teacher/scholar, as well as your current involvement in a local church and community service.
  2. State your understanding of the relationship of faith commitments and biblical perspectives to your scholarly discipline.
  3. Provide a statement of your teaching philosophy and how it relates to instruction in the undergraduate liberal arts core of a Christ-centered university. Be certain to include examples/experiences of specific pedagogies and approaches you’ve employed or intend to employ.
