Master of Arts in Educational Technology

A graduate-level study of the ministry of Jesus as depicted in Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and various other biblical witnesses. The aim of the course is to acquire knowledge of Jesus in his historical setting and to make contemporary applications of his ministry for the Christian.

This course explores biblical wisdom literature, particularly Proverbs, along with other wisdom traditions as foundations for ethical reflection. These insights are applied to contemporary challenges in technology, digital citizenship, and educational leadership.

This course introduces students to American and global K-12 education systems with a focus on technology integration. Students will engage with the ISTE Standards, develop foundational research skills, and practice scholarly writing using APA 7. Emphasis is placed on academic literacy, ethical research practices, and cultural perspectives to prepare students for success in graduate study and leadership in educational technology. Students are encouraged to complete this as the first CPED course in the MAET program, as it provides foundational knowledge and skills for subsequent coursework.

This course provides a foundational overview of the hardware and systems that support K-12 teaching and learning. Students will build a Raspberry Pi computer to deepen their understanding of how computers function, while also exploring a range of educational technologies to analyze their components, maintenance needs, and applications in classroom settings. Emphasis is placed on troubleshooting and developing the confidence to support effective integration of educational technology.

This course examines the design, creation, and use of multimedia for educational purposes. Students will complete hands-on projects across various formats, including but not limited to print media, e-books, podcasts, video, web design, and interactive presentations, with an emphasis on accessibility, creativity, and K-12 curriculum integration. The course also introduces AI tools to enhance educational content creation, personalization, and inclusive media design.

This course examines the design, implementation, and evaluation of digital learning environments in K-12 education. Students will explore learning management systems (LMS), content management tools, artificial intelligence (AI), and emerging technologies such as virtual and augmented reality to create engaging, inclusive, and accessible digital learning experiences for both synchronous and asynchronous formats. Emphasis is also placed on the soft skills required to facilitate online learning, including communication, presence, adaptability, and classroom management in digital spaces. Prerequisite: CPED 5200 Multimedia in Education.

This course introduces foundational coding concepts and their applications in K-12 learning environments. Students will engage with block-based programming, beginning mobile app development, introductory Python to create hands-on projects related to teaching coding in the K-12 setting. Artificial intelligence (AI) will also be explored as a tool to assist with coding. Emphasis is placed on using coding to support K-12 students’ creativity, problem-solving, and engagement across subject areas. Prerequisite: CPED 5110 Exploring & Understanding Educational Technology.

This hands-on course empowers educators to explore and apply digital tools that support creative expression, innovation, and design thinking in K-12 learning environments. Through interdisciplinary projects using tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and generative artificial intelligence (AI), students will learn to model and facilitate educational technology use that promotes student agency, problem-solving, and inclusivity in K-12 settings. Prerequisite: CPED 5320 Introduction to Coding for Educators.

This course explores the potential of emerging technologies – including artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), drones, and the Internet of Things (IoT) – for the K-12 settings. Students will critically examine the design, implementation, and ethical implications of these tools, evaluating their effectiveness in supporting engagement, creativity, accessibility, and personalized learning in the K-12 learning environment. Students will also explore assistive technology. Prerequisite: CPED 5320 Introduction to Coding for Educators.

This course introduces foundational principles of instructional design, focusing on the integration of technology, including emerging tools such as AI, to enhance teaching and learning in K-12 learning environments. Students will explore evidence-based learning theories and major instructional design models, conduct learner and needs analyses, and design aligned objectives, assessments, and instructional plans. Emphasis is placed on ethical practice, accessibility, and the intentional selection of technology to support diverse educational goals in the K-12 setting.

Building on foundational knowledge, this advanced course provides in-depth practice in designing, developing, and evaluating technology-enhanced instruction for the K-12 setting. Students will apply instructional design models to authentic K-12 projects that integrate multimedia, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and data-informed decision-making. Emphasis is placed on iterative design, stakeholder collaboration, and the use of digital tools, including artificial intelligence (AI), to support accessibility, engagement, and learner variability. Prerequisite: CPED 5500 Introduction to Instructional Design for Educational Technology.

This course prepares students to lead transformative educational technology initiatives in K-12 settings. Emphasizing strategic planning and ethical leadership, students will learn to shape a shared vision, develop inclusive technology policies, and foster innovation across educational communities. Through case studies, collaborative projects, and practical application, they will evaluate technology plans, build professional learning networks, secure funding, and use data to guide continuous improvement. Designed for future educational leaders, the course equips students to advocate for equitable, sustainable, and impactful uses of technology in education.
