General Maintenance and Construction Technician
The Campus Services Department at Johnson University is seeking a qualified candidate for the full-time position of General Maintenance & Construction Technician. They will perform various construction and general carpentry tasks to accomplish project goals and objectives under the direction of the Construction Maintenance Lead. Candidate must be experienced in carpentry and painting and have a general knowledge of other building maintenance trades. Must have a genuine heart for Kingdom work and be willing to train, mentor and work with student workers. Qualified applicants may submit a resume to [email protected].
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform construction and general carpentry tasks.
- Oversee a team of work study students in the completion of work orders and projects.
- Ensure assigned tasks are performed with quality and efficiency maintaining state and local codes and standards.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage inventory of department tools, equipment, building supplies, shop supplies, and chemicals.
- Follow all safety protocols and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Proven experience as a maintenance worker or construction worker
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of basic carpentry, drywall, painting, cabinetry, wall & floor covering, window & doors, framing, roofing, siding, brick/block and concrete maintenance and repair tasks.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Able to analyze, organize, implement, and coordinate a variety of work assignments.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- General knowledge of MS Office and Outlook, and other computer functions
Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years general carpentry/construction experience
- Valid driver’s license
- Lift operators training certification (current or within 1 year of employment)
- High School diploma or equivalent; vocational training a plus
