Residence halls open for new students on August 23 and for returning students on August 24. Students should watch their Johnson email for details.

Preparations for your arrival are ongoing until you arrive. Your room will be ready for you at your arranged move-in time. A $300 fee will be incurred by anyone moving in early and/or allowing someone to move in early.

Student-athletes will receive information about their move-in date and time from the athletic director, Brandon Perry.

Student wireless internet is accessible campus-wide. Your RA/RD will have the password for the JohnsonUniversity network.

All enrolled students are required to register their vehicle or waive their parking registration. You can find the Vehicle Registration Form on my.Johnson.edu.

If vehicle is registered:

Dorm residents – receive their decal when they check into the dorm
Non-traditional residents – pick up their decal in the Student Life office
Commuter students – pick up their decal in the Student Life office

A parking map will be included with the decal designating where you can park with the decal you receive. Tickets will be issued for improper parking and improper use of assigned parking spots (for example, handicapped spots, authorized University vehicle spots, or guest spots).

Mattresses are Twin Extra Long.

The height of the shelf in the dorm room is 34.5″ high off the floor to underneath the shelf.

Yes. We do not provide curtains. If you decide to hang a curtain, 57″ L x 70″ W is the max. Anything longer than this you will be asked to take down, as it will cover the heating and air unit in the room.

No, there are bike racks provided outside each dorm.

You will be provided a stove/oven and a refrigerator. You will need to provide all other furnishings.

Yes, all vehicles on campus should be registered.

The University encourages all residents to obtain renter’s insurance to protect yourself and help replace personal belongings in case of theft, fire, or water damage.

Monday through Thursday the curfew is 12:00 a.m. Friday through Sunday it is 1:00 a.m.

Our resident assistants offered the following tips for making your room a more comfortable and fun place to spend the year!

• Having pictures of friends and family on the wall is super helpful and encouraging for first-time freshmen leaving home.
• For those who have not seen a Johnson dorm room, knowing that the desks are pretty big and that no furniture can leave the room is helpful when planning out their room ideas.
• Always have 3M strips/command hooks on hand (that is all you are allowed to use to hang stuff on the walls).
• Because of the fire code, only 20% of each wall may be covered–keep that in mind when considering hanging a blanket, posters, or other items.
• The L-shape of bed and desk is always the way to go.
• For maximum space, and if you don’t really use your desk, you can stack the bed with the desk underneath (close together) and use the desk as a storing shelf.
• For a single room, stacking the beds together is always the way to go!
• To make things feel more like home, bring lamps or string lights. I hate fluorescent lighting so I hardly ever turn them on, but having string lights and lamps all around my room makes it feel cozier and more like home.
• Bring a rug! Even if you have a room with carpet, it makes things feel cozier (even if it is a small one).
• Buy a hanging rack that can fit in the bathroom. It helps with storing and organizing. You can find one cheap at Walmart or Amazon.
• Compact fold all clothes that go in drawers so you can get maximum storage.
• Plastic tubs/containers are very beneficial in transportation and storage in college.
• Make sure you don’t cover/block the thermostat or it will mess with the temperature in your room.
