Program Director and/or Full-time Faculty (non-tenure track, 12-month appointment)

Johnson University invites applicants for a full-time Program Director and/or Core Faculty within the School of Social & Behavioral Sciences (SSBS). This position is to begin July 1, 2025. The school of Social and Behavioral Sciences houses undergraduate programs in psychology and family studies (CFLE-approved program), a CACREP-accredited master degree in counseling with concentrations in School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and houses the University Counseling Center on the Tennessee campus.

Faculty can expect to teach 24hrs per academic year with 3 hours of load credit for the position of program director, depending upon class enrollments. Graduate courses are taught in 8- and 16- week formats, utilizing hybrid instructional methods. Salary for the position is commensurate with qualifications and includes a full university benefits package.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Specific to the Program Director:
    • Oversight of the Graduate Counseling Programs (GCP)
      • Serve as Academic Unit Leader for CACREP Accreditation purposes
        • Provide or delegate year-round leadership to the operation of GCP
        • Be responsible for the coordination of GCP
        • Receive inquiries regarding the overall academic unit
      • Chair GCP faculty meetings on Tennessee campus
      • Work with the Assessment Coordinator to assess GCP courses
      • Represent the GCP in recruitment of students
      • Oversee advising of current GCP students
      • Assist the Dean of SSBS in coordination of advisory council meetings for GCP
    • Assist the Dean in administrative responsibilities related to the program
      • Development of the course schedule
      • Development of the GCP portion of the SSBS budget
      • Addressing staffing needs in GCP
      • Oversight of Adjunct Faculty in GCP
      • Oversee Student Portfolios and related graduate student competency requirements
    • Specific to Core Faculty:
      • Instruct and facilitate meaningful learning of course material.
      • Use innovative learning strategies and effectively integrate technology into the learning experience.
      • Conduct assessments of student learning outcomes and provide accurate/timely assessment data to the SSBS Assessment Coordinator.
      • Provide timely feedback/grades to students and Registrar.
      • Maintain appropriate office hours during the academic year.

School Responsibilities:

  • Participate in SSBS faculty meetings (e.g., strategic planning, administrative, advisory council, etc.).
  • Advise graduate Counseling students.
  • Participate in school projects/tasks (e.g., faculty hiring process, curriculum review and oversight).
  • Participate in recruitment and retention activities.
  • Actively participate in marketing of the program, as well as forming partnerships with colleagues and students, where appropriate

Institutional Responsibilities:

  • Accept appointments to committee by university or school.
  • Attend university faculty meetings.
  • Actively participate in the university community life (e.g., Senior Saints, Miller-Scott Banquet).
  • The final candidate should be prepared to respond in a signed statement their support of the university’s Faculty Community Covenant, Faculty Handbook, Mission and Core Values, Statement of Faith and the SBSS Mission Statement

Key Qualifications:

  • Earned doctoral degree in a counselor education program, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program, or a related doctoral degree with prior experience as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013. Will consider ABD if a clear timeline for completion is in place.
  • Demonstrated service to the profession and the broader community through local, regional, and national affiliations.
  • Evidence of scholarship through presentations and/or publications.
  • Able to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through teaching, research and/or service.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Support the Mission of Johnson University and act in accordance with Johnson University’s stated values.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with diverse groups and on interdisciplinary teams.
  • Proficient with the use of standard office and internet applications on personal computers.
  • Licensure or licensure eligible in the State of Tennessee as a Licensed Professional Counselor, professional school counselor, or as a mental health professional (LPC, LMFT, etc.).
  • Able to become proficient using the Sakai learning management platform.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior teaching experience in a college or university setting and practical experience in the particular subject field.
  • Experience using online learning management platforms such as Blackboard, Moodle, or Sakai.
