Video Content Producer

The Communications team at Johnson University invites applications for the position of Video Content Producer. This person should be passionate about telling compelling stories about a growing university and working with a collaborative team to produce creative and professional video content. Position is a hybrid role with optional remote days on Monday and Friday. Required in-office days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. May be required to be in-office if needed to film on-campus events.

Job Summary

The Video Content Producer works closely with the Johnson University Communications team as well as the JU faculty, staff, and administration to develop creative, innovative, and high-quality video storytelling for distribution across multiple platforms. Audiences include prospective students and their families, community members, alumni, donors, and friends of the university. The Content Producer will conceptualize video ideas in collaboration with the Creative Director and will shoot and edit videos for the JU website, social media, YouTube, and other distribution channels including OTT broadcast.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops creative and engaging promotional, short-form and long-form video to promote the Johnson University brand through social media and the website for recruitment, fundraising, alumni engagement, and other projects as assigned.
  • Meets with faculty and staff to outline goals for video projects; coordinates the conceptualization, planning, capturing, and editing of videos.
  • Collaborates with the Communications team on cross-discipline projects.
  • Maintains videography equipment and provides guidance for new equipment purchases.
  • Serves as the lead in maintaining and updating the Johnson University YouTube account.
  • Suggests ideas for new video projects to meet University goals.
  • Leads work-study students and social media ambassador students on selected video projects.

Knowledge & Skill Requirements

  • A Christian faith and support for Johnson University’s mission and values.
  • At least two-three years of experience in video storytelling, including video planning, camera operation, location and set management, audio, and lighting. Proven experience in interpreting project goals and translating them into media.
  • Bachelor’s degree in video production or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using video editing software: Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, and Adobe Creative Suite. Proficiency in CG applications like After Effects preferred.
  • Familiarity with Sony cameras.
  • Motion graphics and digital typography.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including ability to stay organized while managing multiple projects, competing priorities, and tight deadlines.
  • Interpersonal/interviewing skills including the ability to engage subjects of the video to maximize results.
  • Experience with VR technology and content development is a plus.
  • Experience flying and filming with professional-level drones is a plus.
  • Habits of self-starting and taking initiative.
  • Strong teamwork, leadership, and communication skills required to foster collaboration, drive team success, and lead projects effectively.
  • Good communication and personal relationship skills, including problem-solving and decision-making ability.
  • Must be able to work both collectively within a team and independently to achieve goals and meet deadlines.
  • Some evening and weekend work hours required as needed.

Working Conditions

  • Work inside at a computer; sit or stand for long periods of time.

  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted.
