My favorite part about teaching at Johnson is: I get to do the things I love, teaching and learning about language and culture, with folks I enjoy being around, students interested in impacting the world for the sake of God’s Kingdom!
When I’m not teaching, I love to: Hang out with my wife and puppy, Maple. I also enjoy the three R’s of reading, writing, and running!
In my classes, students can expect: A lot of hard work (especially about language) and hard thinking (especially about culture). My classes may be challenging, and you’ll get out of them what you put in.
My best advice to a new student in my program is: To embrace cross-cultural and cross-language experiences. Find an intercultural ministry you can serve alongside while you’re a student. Make an international friend and learn another language. Study abroad.
Because of my influence, I most want my students to become: Passionate followers of Jesus who desire above every desire to bring John’s vision of the throne room, where people from every nation, tribe, people, and language have gathered in worship-to earth.
The myth-busting truth about my discipline I most want people to understand is: We don’t have all the answers. We’re not dead yet, so we’re not done learning.
A quote that influences how I live is: “The wide world is all about you: you can fence yourselves in, but you cannot for ever fence it out.” ~J.R.R. Tolkien
