Job Summary

The Information Technology Department exists to support the mission of Johnson University through excellent service and innovative campus technology.

The I.T. Director reports to the Vice President of Campus Services and works closely with the institution’s administrators and department heads. The Director is responsible for developing the University’s vision for technology and for leading all aspects of the University’s I.T. advancement and initiatives, including academic and administrative systems management and infrastructure maintenance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Proactively identifies emerging technologies that will advance the University’s mission, maximizing sustainability and impact.
  • Develops a long-term technology plan to be reviewed and updated annually.
  • Establishes and enforces standards for technology adoption and University operations.
  • Builds and manages a technology team that can execute initiatives, drive innovation, and manage projects.
  • Guides and directs intentional professional development strategies for IT staff.
  • Manage a team of IT professionals and foster a supportive, learning-focused work culture. Conduct annual performance reviews and coaching.
  • Holds regular department meetings to review strategic goals and initiatives, prioritize tasks, and promote team building.
  • Develops and oversees institution-wide training in the use of IT hardware and software.
  • Provides technical direction and guidance, as well as hands-on project management for university technology initiatives.
  • Facilitates efforts to simplify and streamline administrative tasks and make data more accessible and useful for all employees in support of information-based decision-making.
  • Serves as a guide and expert technical resource to academic administrators as they develop robust, affordable, accessible, technology-mediated learning systems and digital library services for an international student body.
  • Operates and manages all aspects of telecommunications, including systems supporting the University’s telephone service, classroom technology, and websites.
  • Ensures the optimal application of technology resources to meet stakeholder requirements, including academic, administrative, student, alumni, and other key partnerships.
  • Holds responsibility for the IT budget, contract management, and security and risk management.
  • Develops and leads compliance efforts for GLBA, PCI, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains a disaster recovery plan for information technology.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field plus 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in higher education IT
  • Expertise in enterprise systems, networking, security and project management methodologies
  • Track record of delivering technology initiatives that enhanced teaching, learning and business operations.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical professionals and foster collaboration.

Working Conditions

This position will require long periods of sitting along with long periods of standing. IT Technicians are expected to perform precise tasks (wiring, manipulating fasteners and small components, etc.) that require control and dexterity. There will also be days of extended walking across the campus for IT issues. One must also have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
