Athletic Admissions Counselor

The Admissions Office at Johnson University Tennessee invites applications for the full-time position of Athletic Admissions Counselor on the Tennessee campus. Job Summary

The admissions office functions on a management team concept with the Chief Admissions Officer serving as head of the team and with each team member carrying full responsibility for their defined area. Each area supports and encourages one another, yet in a very real sense, is a separate entity unto itself.

Each admissions counselor is responsible for recruiting and managing the recruitment process for assigned programs and territories to help achieve enrollment goals for Johnson University Tennessee. Admissions recruitment, counseling, outreach, office management, and program and event coordination are all significant functions of this position. Admissions counselors must possess a drive to reach enrollment goals.

This counselor will travel to college fairs, conferences, and other events in their region to recruit students. The counselor will also facilitate Preview Days and individual visits for prospective students and assist with marketing functions. They will also oversee their assigned areas of recruitment, including partnering with specific academic schools at JUTN.

The Athletic Admissions Counselor is specifically responsible for ensuring a smooth recruiting and enrollment process for student-athlete recruits. This counselor will serve as a liaison between the admissions office, the athletic department, and the financial aid department to ensure proper communication between coaches and staff regarding athletic applicants, visits, offers, and athletic institutional aid.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruit students to Johnson University Tennessee and other campuses
  • Answer any emails/phone calls in a quick and professional manner
  • Advise prospective students and applicants regarding their application and enrollment at Johnson University
  • Process applicant paperwork and maintain paperwork and applicant files
  • Communicate regularly with prospects and applicants, documenting all communication
  • Evaluate applicant files and make recommendations to the Director of Undergraduate Admissions for final decision
  • Plan and organize travel to recruitment events in region as necessary
  • Generate creative ways to introduce applicants to life at Johnson
  • Work with other Admissions team members to facilitate events on campus
  • Cultivate a general understanding of the history, mission, and purpose of Johnson University
  • Work with other Admissions team members to promote events on and off-campus
  • Work with coaches to ensure a smooth enrollment process for athlete recruits

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; to establish positive public relations for Johnson University; and to interact effectively with a wide variety of people.
  • Discretion and good judgment are essential as the admissions counselor reviews sensitive admission materials and communicates policy and procedure.
  • Ability to manage stress in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment and a high volume of work that is prioritized daily.
  • Ability to resolve problems and to develop relevant alternatives and recommendations.
  • Excellent customer service and interactive skills.
  • High level of accuracy and organization.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Efficient and accurate use of Microsoft applications.

Working Conditions

  • Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Evenings and weekends occasionally required.
  • Local and regional travel as necessary
  • Working at a desk in a climate-controlled office.
  • Willingness and ability to travel; a valid driver’s license, able to lift and carry marketing/promotional materials (up to 30 lbs)
