Welcome to Johnson University! The Student Life staff is glad to add to your Royal Welcome. Our mission is to help you identify, find, and use the information and tools you need to find success as a Royal student. Johnson University has made a major investment in student life because we recognize that a significant part of the uncommon community experience takes place outside of the classroom. Programs and activities offered by the Student Life office are often done in conjunction with the Student Government Association and are designed to encourage the spiritual, social, mental, and physical development of Johnson students.

Johnson University’s Financial Aid office is here to help you make college affordable. The Student Accounts office makes sure that tuition, room, board, and fees are correctly reflected on your student bill. Together, we are Student Financial Services and we can be found in the Eubanks Activities Center.

How do I know my bill is ready for review?
Student bills will be ready for review about one month prior to each semester’s payment due date if students are registered for approved courses.

July 15: Fall term bills are ready for review

November 15: Spring term bills are ready for review

March 15: Summer bills are ready for review

The Student Accounts office will email your JohnsonU.edu email address to let you know your bill is ready for review.

How do I check my bill?
Visit the Student Account Center on the my.JohnsonU.edu portal under the Student Finances tab. Account charges and pending financial aid are seen on the “Transaction Details” tab once you log in to the Student Account Center.

Students should verify that their tuition and fee amounts, housing and meal plan charges, and financial aid credits are correct. If charges or credits are missing or incorrect, please contact the Student Accounts office or the appropriate department to see why the charges are not correct.

How can I pay my bill?
Credit card payments or automatic withdrawal payments are accepted online through the Student Account Center.

If you understand your balance and would like to pay over the phone, please call the Cashier at 865-251-2237.

Checks can be made payable to Johnson University, with your name and ID number in the memo line. Mail to:

Payment plans are available if you are not able to pay your account balance in full by August 15. You determine the payment plan budget to cover your balance due. Your budget is divided into four equal payments. Payment due dates for fall term are August 15, September 15, October 15, and November 15. Payment due dates for spring term are December 15, January 15, February 15, and March 15. Payment plans can be set up online through the Student Account Center each term. There is a $35 fee to set up your payment plan.

When is my bill due?
August 15: Fall term payment arrangements are due

December 15: Spring term payment arrangements are due

April 15: Summer term payment arrangements are due

How often should I check my student account?
You should check your student account weekly for any changes in charges or financial aid. Any changes to your schedule, housing, meal plan, or insurance can cause changes in your charges. Updates to your FAFSA, degree, GPA, or grade level can cause updates in your financial aid. It’s best to be proactive and check your account for any changes often!

Why does my bill change?
Student Accounts updates the charges on your Student Account each weekday morning. Financial Aid updates the credits on your student account several times each day. If there are changes to your schedule or student life options for housing, meal plans, or insurance, your bill may change. If there are changes to your scholarships, your FAFSA, your degree, or your schedule, your aid may change. If you log in to your Student Account Center and do not see your aid or charges, please try again later in the day. If your bill is still not reflected correctly or you have questions after checking back, please call Student Financial Services at 865-251-2303 or email or and we will be happy to check your account.

How can my parent or guardian view or pay my bill?
Authorized parties can be added to your Student Account Center by clicking on the “Add an Authorized Party” button. You can add an authorized party with their email address and they will be notified via email with directions on how to set up an account to access your Student Account Center. An authorized party can make payments on your behalf.

Pioneer Dining Services

Meal Plans

Meal plans are required of students living in the residence halls. They are optional for other students. Pioneer College Caterers offers six meal plans:

Traditional meals: 9, 13, or 17 meals per week
Uneaten meals do not roll over each week and a meal cannot be given to someone else.

Block meals: 130, 190,or 225 per semester
Students may scan multiple times to pay for themselves, friends, and family.

The above meal plans allow students to exchange a meal at the River Grill in the Eubanks Activities Center or Habaneros at the Graham Center.

17 Trad/225 Block–5 meals per week
13 Trad/190 Block–3 meals per week
9 Trad/130 Block–1 meal per week

Exchange meals start over each Monday and include one entree, a side item, a drink, and a dessert.

Unused meals do not roll over from semester to semester.

Dining Options

FLEX dollars and cash may be used at any option. Meal plan and exchange options are listed here.

Gally Dining Hall
Main dining area (cafeteria-style) located in the Gally Commons. Meals served here are part of the student’s meal plan. A wide variety of options, including gluten-free and dairy-free. Services are available for students with medical diet needs.

River Grill
Located in the basement of the EAC, the River Grill provides fast food-type meals made to order. A great place to eat and study or hang out. Meals at the River Grill can be used as Exchange meals.

Underground Starbucks Coffee Shop
Find your favorite coffees at the Underground in the basement of the EAC.

Graham Center Coffee
Along with specialty coffees, Graham Center Coffee also serves tasty smoothies, sandwiches, sports bars, and salads.

Habaneros
Located in the Graham Center, Habaneros serves Mexican meals made to order. Great place to eat before an athletic event or anytime you have a hankering for queso! Meals at Habaneros can be used as Exchange meals.

FLEX Dollars

FLEX dollars work as cash that can be used at each of the dining options. Purchases of $10 or more in FLEX dollars will receive a 10% bonus in value (for instance, if you buy $100 in FLEX dollars, you will be credited with $110). Unused FLEX dollars can carry forward from semester to semester as long as you are a current student. FLEX dollars are non-refundable.

To purchase FLEX dollars you can visit the Pioneer College Caterers site, pay at the register as you enter the dining hall, or complete the FLEX dollar form on the portal.

How do I apply for JU Works (work-study)?
1. Complete the FAFSA.
2. Complete the JU Works Employment Application.
3. Interview with a department supervisor.
4. Attend the JU Works Expo.

What is the JU Works Employment Expo?
The Expo is a job fair and hiring event at the beginning of the fall semester for students who have applied for a position. The department supervisors determine which applicants will fill their open positions, and new student employees complete required paperwork. Please have your class schedule available for supervisors to review. Applicants are encouraged to dress in attire appropriate for a job interview setting.

What information do I need to provide Johnson University when hired?
Federal regulations require that valid identification documents be presented at the time of hire. The documents must be originals; copies are not acceptable. The most common forms of ID are (but are not limited to) a passport or a driver’s license along with a Social Security Card or birth certificate. New student employees will also complete a W-4 Form and an I-9 Form.
The Health Services Office on the Tennessee campus is in the Eubanks Activities Center. It is open Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and offers services free of charge to students, faculty, and staff. Basic services provided include first aid for minor injuries, assessment and referrals for injuries or illnesses, recommendations for self-treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, and monitoring of vital signs. No appointment is needed.

Johnson University Campus Safety and Security Offices are located in the Facilties Services buildings. We operate flexible hours to best serve our campus community. JU Campus Safety and Security provides a variety of services with the goal of promoting a safe and welcoming environment which recognizes and is respectful of diversity, and which improves the quality of campus life for students, faculty, and staff.

Security Overview:

JU uses a multifaceted approach to campus safety that meshes different security elements together.
- Contract Security on duty 6:00 p.m.- 6:00 a.m. weekdays and 24 hrs on weekends.
- The front entrance of campus is monitored by a blend of contract security, student workers, and security cameras.
- Dormitories are secured via electronic access control and exterior doors are monitored by security cameras.
- Key areas of the campus also use access control and security cameras.
- Traffic and vehicle parking is monitored by student workers to identify irregularities and potential problems.
- Various campus staff members are trained and licensed security officers as part of our Emergency Response Team.
Emergency Services Overview:
- Knox County Sheriff’s Office handles law enforcement needs. Average response times are 10-30 minutes. The Campus Security Supervisor assists as needed in these issues and investigations.
- Seymour Volunteer Fire Department handles fire response needs in addition to medical services. Average response times are 5-15 minutes. Various campus staff members are trained to handle minor and preliminary situations.
- American Medical Response (AMR) handles ambulance transport and related medical needs for our campus. Average response times are 10-30 minutes.
- JU also uses on-campus staff trained to various medical levels to provide early invention that bridges the gap to other medical services. Average response times are 1-5 minutes.
- JU operates an emergency phone number: 865-251-2222. The phone is answered 24/7 for medical, fire or other urgent campus needs.
- JU has Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) located in the single student dorm lobbies, athletic building lobby (ARC), and other campus locations.
- JU dormitories are fire protected with a sprinkler system and monitored fire alarm system. All other student-occupied commercial campus buildings have monitored fire alarm systems and sprinkler systems.
- JU provides care for student workers who are injured while working for the University. The injured worker must report the injury as soon as possible to their supervisor and either the campus nurse (865-251-2256) or Environment, Health and Safety office (EHS) (865-251-2239).

Students can receive NIXLE alerts on their cell phones. To register:

The JU campus store offers Johnson University insignia, school supplies, course notes, and gifts as well as snacks and drinks. We also carry envelopes and postage stamps. If you are a non-traditional student, you may purchase laundry card refills through us.

We are here to support students with textbook purchases and returns of textbook rentals at the end of the semester. We are here to answer any questions or help with issues pertaining to textbook orders. Call us at 865-251-2246.

• Provides short-term individual and group counseling to Johnson University students.

• Students frequently seek counseling services for anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, interpersonal relationships, marital/premarital issues, personal growth, grief, academic issues, addiction issues, and more.

• If you need additional resources or services beyond what the UCC can provide, we can connect you with local therapists and medication providers in the area.

• Your personal information and details of your counseling sessions are kept completely confidential according to Tennessee State Law. The UCC is unable to confirm or deny the identity of any clients, or discuss any client details to anyone (including parents) without the written permission of the client.

• Any student who is currently in long-term year-round treatment may receive referral assistance to community providers at the UCC.

Johnson’s Academic Support Center offers a variety of free resources to help students succeed in the classroom, including coaching and resources on writing, research, study skills, exam preparation, and more. For many students, one of the biggest adjustments to college life is learning how to manage their time, plan ahead for papers and tests, and map out a study calendar for each class. The Academic Support Center is here to help!

Our Mission

Technology is very important at Johnson University. We work hard each day to ensure students have access to the technology that runs our campus.

If you have Verizon or T-Mobile as your wireless carrier it will have very limited connection on campus. AT&T and Sprint work the best on campus. Students can turn on WiFi calling assist on their phones to make those calls and use our wireless network.

If you have issues connecting to the network or have issues with connecting to JU websites or downloading Office 365, you can contact I.T. by calling x2667, emailing , or simply walking into our offices during business hours. We cannot fix all your computer issues, though. That would simply swamp our team. We do give a courtesy five minutes to listen to the issue and suggest fixes.

We do have a 24/7 call center off campus that will help with password resets and log-on questions. The phone number (888) 989-7076 can be found on the welcome page of the my.JohnsonU.edu portal. The link is called “Helpdesk.”

JU email is the preferred method of communication between faculty, staff and students. Students need to watch their emails.

We offer Microsoft Office 365 as part of the student network accounts. This allows you to download the Office 365 suite to up to five devices – PC, Mac, iPhone, tablets iOS and Android. You can find the instructions on the Portal on the IT Helpdesk page. Please remember to save your documents to a cloud-based system such as Dropbox, Google Drive, or our free JU Microsoft One Drive – which we offer as part of the Office 365 account. I cannot stress this enough! We have seen too many students lose all their work because their laptop hard drive or flash drive died, and we do not want you to suffer that fate.

We have two computer labs on campus. One is in the Phillips-Welshimer Building (PW) on the first floor and one in the library. One of the biggest concerns students have is printing papers for class. We offer many printers to print from so you can print your papers on time. We installed a printer in the second floor of each dorm for 24/7 access. We recommend you do not wait until the last minute to print! We do offer a system called mobile print that allows you to email your papers to the print system from your dorms or devices. Simply log into your JU email account online and email the paper as an attachment to . Then you can log on to any copier or print station on the campus and print your document. You can send the email from your dorm room and walk up to the copier in any of our buildings and the print job will be there waiting for you in the print queue.

Lastly, and very importantly, we all need to be on guard for viruses, phishing, and scareware. These are certainly on the rise. Have you ever seen the warning that pops up on your screen that says something like “Your firewall or antivirus is out of date, please call this number to reactivate”? These are scams 99.9% of the time! Please do not call the number! Do not let anyone else have your password! Our team will not ask for any passwords of JU accounts. We can reset the passwords to a default that the student must change immediately. Be safe on the Internet!

In order to have sufficient technology for classwork and other school activities, students should have a laptop or desktop computer running the latest version of Windows 10 or MacOS. Use of Chromebooks and tablets, such as iPads, are not recommended as a primary device for schoolwork. This computer should also be equipped with a sufficient webcam, microphone, and set of audio speakers for clear viewing or creating of audiovisual content.

Students should keep all software installed on their computer, including web browsers and Microsoft Office, patched and updated at all times. Students should also maintain an active antivirus and anti-malware solution on their computers.
