Topics include accuracy, clarity, naturalness, the source—meaning—receptor translation model, cultural factors in translation model, cultural factors in translation, and the relevance theory of communication.
This course equips students with an understanding of the process of consultant checking a Bible translation and an awareness of issues commonly arising in translating the biblical text. Topics include role and qualifications of a consultant, important tools, interpersonal skills, consulting techniques, and approval parameters.
In this course, students obtain experience in the process of translation consulting. Working under the mentorship of a consultant trainer they will participate in the translation consulting process, applying the skills they learned in the Translation Consulting course.
