When Florida Christian College merged under Johnson University in 2013, Dr. David Eubanks graciously came out of retirement to head Johnson University Florida during the initial transition. The original plan of his leading the Florida campus for a few months has stretched into almost two years.
I am pleased now to announce the appointment of Dr. Michael L. Chambers as Johnson University Florida’s Chancellor and Vice Provost, Elect. The appointment will be effective June 1, 2015, until the August Convocation in Florida, after which he will be Chancellor and Vice Provost. As his title indicates, Dr. Chambers will serve as chief administrative officer and oversee academics on the Florida campus.
I know of no person more qualified than Dr. Chambers to follow Dr. Eubanks as the head of Johnson University’s Florida campus. Dr. Chambers, a native of Illinois, has extensive experience in congregational ministry as well as teaching and administration in higher education. He served congregations in Illinois in various capacities and has taught at Lincoln Christian University, Cincinnati Christian University, Florida Christian College, and St. Louis Christian College. He has three degrees from Lincoln Christian University and a Ph.D. degree from Warnborough College UK.
Since 2006, Dr. Chambers has been the Academic Dean and Executive Vice President of St. Louis Christian College. Mike returns to the Florida campus where he worked in various teaching and administrative roles for twenty-seven years. We eagerly welcome his return to a place dear to his heart. He will begin his service June 1, 2015, and have an overlap of several months with Dr. Eubanks, who has announced his intention to retire in November.
Dr. Eubanks, who has been serving as Chief Operating Officer, is now Chancellor and Vice Provost of Johnson University Florida until the August convocation. After the August convocation, he will be Chancellor-Emeritus.
