Johnson University is pleased to announce that Brandon Perry will be the new Athletic Director at JU’s Tennessee campus. Coach Perry has served as the head coach for the men’s basketball team for the last three years; under his leadership the team has earned two national tournament bids, consistently ranked in the NCCAA top ten, and produced seven All-Region players and two All-American players. He has been named Mideast Region Coach of the year twice in these three years and last year was also named NCCAA DII National Coach of the Year. Before joining Johnson, Perry served as a youth minister at Boones Creek Christian Church in Johnson City, TN; the minister at Thorn Grove Christian Church in Strawberry Plains, TN; and Assistant Basketball Coach at Sullivan East High School (his alma mater) in Bluff City, TN. Since 2003 he has also been the Program Director at Appalachian Christian Camp in Unicoi, TN.
“I spent 19 years as a pastor before coming to Johnson University,” Perry says. “Ministry allowed me to cast vision for and invest in a volunteer staff, while developing skills in leadership, organizational management, and team building. I believe in creating an environment that goes beyond winning games and also encourages spiritual formation, holistic personal development, and academic success. I love Johnson University and I’m excited about the opportunity to lead the athletic program in support of Johnson’s mission.”
