7 College Visit Questions Every High School Students Should Ask

Visiting a university campus is the best way to decide if you will be happy with your choice. Johnson University Tennessee offers several Preview Day events throughout the year to make it easy on students and their families to visit campus to see if JUTN is a good fit.

If you are planning a visit, here are seven questions you should ask and one bonus question to remember.

7. What am I going to study?

If you have decided on a major or field of study you can meet your professors and sit in on a class. Attending a class is a great chance to talk to current students and professors in that program. Still undecided… no problem, ask your admissions counselor to recommend a popular class.

JUTN offers more than 35 programs all with a biblical and arts and sciences core.

6. What am I going to do?

Joining an athletic team or a student led organization are great ways to make your college experience more rewarding. JUTN has men’s and women’s teams and several student groups on campus. If sports are your thing, ask about athletic facilities, coaches, and tryout dates. If you are not sure about joining a team, consider intramural sports as an alternative way to make friends and have fun.

Want to become a Royal? Contact the athletic director, Ken Underwood for details.

5. May I see the dorms?

Of course, everyone wants to see where they will be living for the next four years. At JUTN our resident halls feature two-person dorm rooms each with internet access, personal temperature controls (your own thermostat), movable/stackable furniture, and a private bathroom. But don’t take our word for it. Ask your admissions counselor about spending the night in the dorms with a student host.

4. What’s for dinner?

Every college campus is different and so is the food. It is important to stay healthy and have lots of options. Our main dining hall, Gally Commons, features a variety of choices including a salad bar, a sandwich bar, fresh fruits and veggies, made-to-order items, a pizza buffet, and of course a cereal bar.

On your campus visit your lunch is on us so sample the menu for yourself. View sample menus and meal plans under the student life section.

In addition to the main dining hall, The River Grill provides alternative food choices, and The Underground Coffee Shop proudly serves Starbucks coffee in a relaxed setting.

3. What about my faith?

As a Christian you are faced with a tough decision when choosing a college. There are a lot of faith-based options as well as public non-religious choices. Believe it or not there is no right or wrong answer here but instead you have to decide which environment is best for you. If you see yourself thriving in an atmosphere of believers who share your values and goals Johnson is right for you.

Johnson students say they love being a part of a Christ-centered community and feel the support of their professors and peers daily. Johnson students attend chapel every week where they experience dynamic worship time and are challenged by thought-provoking speakers.

2. How much does it cost?

It’s no secret that tuition costs are among the top deciding factors of future college students and their parents. Our friendly Enrollment Services staff can answer all your financial questions including important dates and how to apply for scholarships and financial aid.

Since 1893, Johnson University has provided a quality, affordable Christian education. In fact, JUTN is one of the most affordable private colleges in Tennessee. We award $1.9 million in scholarships each year with $600,000 going to students with special financial need. In addition, over 300 work-study jobs are available for qualifying students.

1. How do I apply?

After asking all these questions and seeing the dorms, meeting some professors, and talking with students, you should have a pretty good idea of what life is like on campus. If it is a good fit, apply early (apply online before December 1 and get your app fee waived). Early applicants can get a head-start on scholarships, financial aid, housing assignments, vehicle registration, and other important items.

Your admissions counselor can help you decide the next steps to take and give you important dates or deadlines coming up.

Bonus Question: Can I have a t-shirt?

Don’t forget to ask about your free t-shirt from the Admissions Office. Everyone who visits our beautiful, Knoxville campus will receive a free t-shirt as our way of saying thanks for coming. We look forward to your visit either on one of our FREE Preview Day events or the day of your choice. Schedule a visit online and find out if Johnson University Tennessee is right for you.
