Severe Weather Policy

In the event of severe weather, Johnson University Tennessee employs a schedule of shortened class periods that allows all classes to meet on a delayed schedule beginning at 10:00 a.m.

If the delayed schedule creates a conflict with students’ regular work study hours, students are expected to go to class. If students hold work study positions in essential service areas and are needed, their supervisors may request an administrative absence for them by sending an email to

. Work study supervisors should communicate with their employees ahead of time on what is expected of work study employees in the event of a delayed schedule. If off-campus faculty cannot make it to class, they should contact Joy Wingfield, inform their students, and post assignments on Sakai.

In the event that the University employs the delayed schedule, that information will be reported to the following radio and television stations:

  • WIVK 107.7 FM
  • WNML 99.1 FM
  • WOKI 98.7 FM
  • WVLT-TV Channel 8
  • WBIR-TV Channel 10

Students may also call the University at 251-7900 to hear a recorded message.  Commuters who are forced to miss classes due to inclement weather should email their instructors and copy
