Athletes represent one of the largest “mission fields” in the world. The sport and fitness field includes numerous opportunities for mentoring relationships through which believers can influence others for Christ. The Sports Ministry Minor includes coursework designed to meet standards for Level 1 professional certification by the Association of Church Sports and Recreation Ministers (CSRM).
Students in the Sports Ministry minor will benefit from Johnson’s accreditation, affordable tuition, and an experienced and engaged faculty dedicated to the spiritual formation and professional preparedness of each student. The curriculum is designed to meet standards for professional sport and fitness certifications from the American Red Cross and the Association of Church Sports and Recreation Ministers (CSRM). Sports Ministry students will also be certified in First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and Automated External Defibrillator (American Red Cross). Students can choose from a wide range of course options to complete the 19 credit hours required for the minor.
When students complete this program, they will be able to do the following:
Understand and practice the theories and disciplines required for a lifetime of health and fitness.
Demonstrate foundational knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential for effective leadership in sports professions.
Encourage the usage of sports as a tool for evangelism and Christian discipleship.
