Student Health Insurance

General Policies

The University requires certain students to carry health insurance.

Who Needs Coverage?
Full-Time Traditional Undergraduates
Who Doesn't Need Coverage?
Part-Time Traditional Undergraduates
Adult Evening Degree Students

Students who do not complete a health insurance waiver form online will automatically be enrolled in the student health insurance policy and will be responsible for the applicable premium.

Students who enroll in the student health insurance for the Fall term pay upfront for a 12-month policy that begins the first day of class. Students who enroll and pay for medical insurance for the Spring term will pay a reduced amount due to the reduced length of the policy.

Health Insurance Coverage

The 2016-2017 health insurance provided through Johnson includes unlimited major medical coverage after a $250 annual deductible. Most claims involve an 80%/20% coinsurance for in-network providers. Complete coverage information is available on

Health Insurance Costs

The student health insurance rates for 2016-2017 are:

Participant(s) Annual Rates Spring Rates
Student Only $1,649 $997
Spouse $1,549 $938
Each Child $1,549 $938
3 or more Children $4,647 $2,814

Note: To determine the premium for a student with spouse, student with spouse and children, or student with children, simply add the above rates together. For example, if a student wants insurance for himself and his spouse, then the premium will equal the student rate plus the spouse rate (i.e. $3,198 for 2016-2017). If both spouses are students, then the student rate applies to both.

Insurance premiums are determined by the carrier and may increase from one year to the next.
